... because that is what they are for! (And then if it is gross you don't have to eat it all by yourself.) I tried another new bread recipe for lunch with some friends this week. Mixed Pepper Bread- a somewhat basic bread recipe with diced red and yellow peppers thrown in. The recipe did call for cumin seeds to dress the top of the bread but I don't know what those taste like and thus I didn't have any, but I do like parsley so I used that instead. Wow, was this bread good! The loaf was HUGE, which was surprising since the picture in the book is shown next to a red pepper and it only looks about twice the size. This loaf took up my whole medium baking sheet. Anyways, Jacob loved it, but Daniel cried every time he stuck a piece in his mouth.
Oh yeah, and my March 2011 Baking Challenge Recipe is up. Check it out.

Crazy in the Kitchen
I got made a lot of stuff in my kitchen today. When I look back on today, I think maybe I did too much. I made an apple-saskatoon crumble-pie, I haven't tried it yet, but it looks good; meatloaf for Jeff and pasta for Jacob because he won't eat meatloaf; focaccia bread for dinner and communion bread for sunday, because it is my week; a batch of apple-pear baby food because I am completely out of baby food, so I really had no choice; and hand soap. I should have made popsicles because I am out of those and Jacob has been asking for them... maybe tomorrow.
Now I am tired, but at least I have that pie to look forward to.

I've Invented Something Amazing!
I really wanted to make Peanut Butter Bars, but I didn't have enough peanut butter, or chocolate chips. But I had some mini marshmallows so I thought maybe I would try those amazing peanut butter and marshmallow squares that always show up at church potlucks, but you have no idea who made them. I didn't have the right stuff for those either. I found some peanuts in my cupboard, so maybe some kind of rocky road dessert. Couldn't find anything that I had the right stuff for. So I began to invent. I made up a batch of Blondies with whole wheat flour (out of white), baked for 18 minutes, removed from oven and covered with chocolate chips and marshmallows, returned to oven for 3 minutes, removed again, swirled chocolate and marshmallows with chop stick, cooled in the refrigerator and cut. And then I ate one, and then another. Amazing.

Kitchen Challenge - FEBRUARY
I decided saturday morning to make my lemon meringue pie. I put the pie crust in the oven and started on the lemon filling according to the box directions. Now, HERE, I put several tips for making meringue. So when I got to that step I tried to turn on the computer... and wouldn't you know it, the internet was down. So without my handy tips or any idea what I was really doing I proceeded to make the meringue topping. Of course, after the pie was in the oven the internet started working again, and I am pretty sure I did not whip the eggs up enough.
Well, we waited until the kids went to bed to eat the pie, and it was so tasty we each had two pieces. It was a little runny, so I must not have measured the water right, or maybe it was because I used margarine instead of butter, or my eggs were extra large instead of large. I don't know, but it tasted just right.
