A Kitchen Poem For You

If you have to dry the dishes
(such an awful boring chore)
If you have to dry the dishes
('stead of going to the store)
If you have to dry the dishes
and you drop one on the floor
Maybe they won't let you
Dry the dishes anymore.

I Read a Great Book

"Family Dinner" by Laurie David
This book was full of amazing ideas for making dinner more family centered. I really believe that this is something a lot of families are missing out on. Although it is easy right now to eat dinner together I know that it will only get harder as the boys get older and our lives get busier, but I figure if I make it a real priority now, it will truly stick later on. Running through the book were quirky questions to jump start conversation when maybe nobody really wants to talk. My favourite (and I ask you this too) was "If you could change your name, what name would you pick?" I've thought about this and still haven't come up with an answer. The author also gives her list of family dinner rules. I hope to adopt a few of them.
1. No gadgets at the table.
2. Everyone tries everything.
3. Once you sit down, you don't get up until the meal is over.
She also includes lots of awesome recipes. I am going to try her "Speedy Pasta in a Pan" for meatless Monday this week and I have already tried her "Crispy Smashed Potatoes."
Anyways, I loved this book. It was beautiful to look at and delicious to read.

I've Been AWOL - Sorry

Hello Friends. I must confess that my computer is broken, and I can't even blame the kids. I spilled a baby bottle of milk on the keyboard. When I went to tip it over to shake the milk off Jacob commented "It's pouring!" and sure enough, it was. I fried it big-time. When you press nothing you get a "space" and when you press spacebar you get a b and when you press ' you get a g. Then it freaked me out and I unplugged it. Considering my mouse won't right click, I was hooped. So I gave the keyboard to Jacob to play with and he pulled half the keys off, then put some back on in the wrong spots. The next day I plugged the keyboard back in to try and type in a password, and, go figure, it worked. However, I have no idea where Jacob put the larger keys such as enter and delete. Apparently he could only get the little ones on, and he doesn't seem to know what I want when I ask for the other keys. So, although it "works" it is pretty useless.
I also have never gotten around to my April Challenge, which is kind of sucky, because I didn't want to "fail" at this. But I did make pan dessert and it turned out delicious, so maybe that counts a little bit.

A Happy Haircut and A Sad Mama

I cut Jacob's hair. It's a huge ordeal every time. And lately it ALWAYS looks like bedhead. So I decided it was time for a buzzcut. I showed Jacob how easy it was by doing Jeff's hair first. Next we turned on VeggieTales  and bribed him with two suckers (blue and orange). Now my baby looks like a little boy. It was so sad cutting off that beautiful long blonde hair! But now his hair is so soft and fuzzy. He looks like his Dad.
Haircut is over but VeggieTales and sucker are not.

Why are you taking pictures of me?

By the way, the haircutting took place in the kitchen so it totally belongs on my kitchen blog. Also, Daniel decided to taste Jeff's hair off the ground. He was not impressed!
